The 8th grade Technology class of Mr. Bessette and student teacher Rob Boak are constructing a scale model of the Harison-Morley Grist Mill. They are using Systems and Subsystems in Technology (Module T-4, New York State Standards). The three subsystems within the construction system are designing,
managing, and building. The students are managing and building a 30x38" scale model of the grist mill. The scale is 3/4" = 1 foot. They are using a closed-loop system with building the grist mill as input, the process being the resources needed such as: information, materials, tools, and the output being the actual completed structure. Students are learning the different stage of building; foundation, floor framing, wall framing, and roof framing. The Harison-Morley Grist Mill was constructed of stone, but the students are using modern construction techniques to build their model. However, the exterior is planned to be finished so that it looks like stone.
